Matt Kavanagh strives to make his game stand out from the rest by putting up his utmost effort. Kevin and Mary Kavanagh have a son named Matt. He grew up in a home that encouraged him to pursue his dreams. Matt has always aspired to be the top lacrosse player in the United States. Matt began playing his game when he was eight years old when he was still in primary school. Kevin, Brendan, Patrick, and Christopher are his four brothers, and he has one sister (Colleen). One of them is Matt, his parents’ eldest son.
Matt Kavanagh Career:
As a freshman (2013), he had a stellar rookie season, leading the Irish in goals (32) and assists (16); his 32 goals were the most ever for a Notre Dame freshman; he started all 16 games; he earned honorable mention All-America honors from the USILA; he was named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list; he had 11 multiple-goal games, including three four-goal efforts; and he had quite the debut, scoring four goals.
As a first-year student (2014), I finished one of the best seasons in program history, earning a spot on the USILA All-America Second Team and being named to the All-ACC Team. They tallied 42 goals and 33 assists, setting Notre Dame’s single-season marks for points (75) and assists (33). (33) concluded the 2014 season rated 10th nationally in points per game after being the first Notre Dame player to score 30 goals and 30 assists in a season (4.17).
Kavanagh shone brightest in a must-win game for Redwoods LC in Albany, scoring four goals to secure the team’s postseason berth. Kavanagh continued his strong play in 2020, scoring seven goals and adding four assists in the Redwoods’ six games. Kavanagh grew up in Rockville Centre, New York, and went to Chaminade High School.
Kavanagh was a four-time All-American at Notre Dame. He was also voted Tournament MVP and a member of the USA U-19 Gold Medal Team.
